Respondus Quiz 4.0 is a tool for creating and managing exams and quizzes that can be printed to paper or published directly to your WebCT Vista online course.

Respondus Quiz 4.0 is a tool for creating and managing exams and quizzes that can be printed to paper or published directly to your WebCT Vista online course. Exams can be created offline in a Windows environment, and moved from one system to another. Respondus is designed to make quiz authoring faster and easier.

The University of British Columbia has a site license agreement that permits UBC instructors to use Respondus.

Authoring

  • Easily create exams and assessments using a Windows interface
  • Supports up to 15 question types, including calculated and algorithmic formats
  • Import questions from MS Word (including embedded images), rich-text, QTI and tab/comma delimited formats
  • Use the Exam Wizard to create an assessment in minutes
  • "Spell check" an entire exam file (includes dictionaries for American English, Canadian English, British English)
  • Embed graphics, audio, and video without writing or viewing the underlying HTML
  • Resize graphics and convert them to JPEG format with one click
  • Add links to multimedia content on other servers with the Web Links tool
  • Create random sets of questions in seconds with a one-step wizard

Publishing

  • Preview exams, determine point values, save to an MS-Word file
  • A “batch publish” feature allows assessments and surveys to be published to multiple courses in a single step**
  • Determine point values and exam settings offline
  • Print exams/surveys directly from Respondus, or save files to MS Word or rich-text format

Retrieval, Reports, and Tools

  • Reports: Custom reports and statistics
  • Download answer databases for quizzes or surveys and save them in an Excel-compatible format*
  • Archive and restore exam/survey projects (including media content) with one click — ideal for providing a colleague with a ready-to-use exam
  • Quickly locate questions using keyword searches

Note: Mac OS is not compatible with this application

Community of Practice

  • CTLT supports a Community of Practice for CoursEval which meets once per term to discuss issues arising, provide input into process changes and/or view new software releases.

Availability Commitments

  • Hours of service will be 9:00 - 5:00 for primary support
  • Any reported issues or modification requests will be considered "normal" priority. (Please see below for time-sensitive requests.)
  • Work requested outside of "normal office hours" will normally be performed on a best effort basis.
  • For standard support issues, CTLT commits to a normal first response of 1 business day during normal office hours.
  • After hour emergency support is available 24/7.

Maintenance

  • CTLT may institute standard maintenance windows for security and OS patching.
  • CTLT may schedule downtime for application update once every term.
  • Maintenance windows will be documented and communicated in advance to CoursEval administrators.

Incident and Request Handling

Time-sensitive requests/incidents

Pre-Survey Period

  • CTLT works with Faculty administrators to prepare for survey setup.
  • CTLT provides QA to ensure surveys are set up according to Senate Policy requirements.
  • CTLT manages the global messaging for survey participation, announcements and reminders.
  • Course and instructor changes prior to survey open dates will be escalated to high priority.

Survey Period

  • CTLT troubleshoots issues such as: login problems, course enrolment, inquiries about surveys.
  • Course and instructor changes after survey open dates will be escalated to high priority.

Data Retention / Back-up Commitments

  • All application data (e.g., survey records) are backed up on a daily basis to a secure network volume (provided by UBC IT)
  • Archival back-up files are maintained for one year.

Security Commitments

  • Production servers are configured behind firewalls, restricting access to/from ports, protocols and client IP-addresses as appropriate.
  • Appropriate administrative level of access to the CoursEval application is granted with the Department Head and Associate Dean's written permission.
  • Users are responsible for understanding and respecting UBC Policy #104.
  • Archival back-up files are maintained for one year.
